Message To Bears - EP1

From The Music Lobby:
Instrumental acoustic guitarist Jerome Alexander releases his first EP, and it is quite a promising debut. Recalling Xela’s excellent 2004 album Tangled Wool, Message to Bears chooses to play drums, piano, and even a glockenspiel to complement his guitar work. More melodic than complex, this is an incredibly sharp debut and hopefully a tool to get signed and grace us with many more releases of similar quality.

Miranda July - No One Belongs Here More Than You [2007]

Miranda July - No One Belongs Here More Than You

Haha! This time something different :) I've been searching for this one for a while now, well, finally I found it and I'm sharing.
It's an audiobook, read by the autor herself, an awesome artist and director Miranda July. Since I'm in love with her film Me and You and Everyone We Know [and also posted a soundtrack here], I was hunting for this one ;)

http://mirandajuly.com/
http://noonebelongsheremorethanyou.com/

Ok, let's cut the shite out. Here's a description.

From Publishers Weekly
It's a testament to July's artistry that the narrators of this arresting first collection elicit empathy rather than groans. "Making Love in 2003," for example, follows a young woman's dubious trajectory from being the passive, discarded object of her writing professor's attentions to seducing a 14-year-old boy in the special-needs class she teaches, while another young woman enters the sex industry when her girlfriend abandons her, with a surprising effect on the relationship. July's characters over these 16 stories get into similarly extreme situations in their quests to be loved and accepted, and often resort to their fantasy lives when the real world disappoints (which is often): the self-effacing narrator of "The Shared Patio" concocts a touching romance around her epilectic Korean neighbor; the aging single man of "The Sister" weaves an elaborate fantasy around his factory colleague Victor's teenage sister (who doesn't exist) to seduce someone else. July's single emotional register is familiar from her film Me and You and Everyone We Know, but it's a capacious one: wry, wistful, vulnerable, tough and tender, it fully accommodates moments of bleak human reversals. These stories are as immediate and distressing as confessionals. (May)

This is a project of an artist also known as Bluetech or Evan Marc. Haven't heard the last one, but this is way different to what he does as Bluetech. Anyway, I recommend to start with Caverns of Time.

VA - Kokopelli: Conscious Dreams [2007]

VA - Kokopelli: Conscious Dreams

Weird that I haven't posted it before. Well... talking about music to fall asleep, this is perfect. As says the name of this album ;)
Ok, here's some sort of description:
From the center of Amsterdam comes the refreshing chill out compilation Kokopelli compiled by Veer and Supergroover. A single release to celebrate the 10th anniversary of smartshop Conscious Dreams Kokopelli. Chill out has been the soundtrack of this famous smartshop over the years and after listening all those years they decided to release some of the tunes that have spiced up the shop. A nice and relaxing track by Tom & Gijs starts the cd, to be continued by Siebzehn, a german producer that has no problem writing beautiful music. He delivers 3 lovely tracks. Prosect from Israel is a famous name on the scene already with an album under the name sound field. He brings us a orientally influenced track which becomes a little upbeat in the end. Moravec is another promising Dutch producer. This track has a lovely gentle hypnotic chilled out vibe to it. Next is Organix, a duo from Amsterdam that focused on a progressive sound but lately start to make some more chill out tracks as well. They are fully dedicated to producing music and are doing a good job. Their track makes you wanna swim and glide… Last but not least is Samorost, a Costa Rican producer that surely doesn’t have a problem to put emotion in his music. A very relaxing track to end the musical journey.
My recommendations. Enjoy.

Chris Dooks presents: The
 Beautiful
 Barbiturates

Another one from a guy who makes some great mixes ;) This time a little less drones, but way more pure ambient sounds. [Older mix can be found here]. So if you have difficulties with sleeping, this one's for you ;)
Below you can read about what Chris had to say about the tracklisting.... in an interesting form. And here's the proper tracklisting :)
[However watching/listening php video tutorials helps to fall asleep too! works for me anyway.]

We softly resurrect scratchy vinyl lushes via looped audio detritus. These ghosts, the Oxfam-remixed, Lazarus-like tunes of Glasgows's
Lucky Pierre (1) set the scene for rest-play. Then bounces in Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project (2) which is German umpah-lumpah marching music slowed down to custard pulses and you might think "eh, this is a bit lively for a relaxation record" but we are aware early that you need some soft beats to lull you into the master of ambient, but it's no place for aviophobics as we are into the legendary Music for Airports by Brian Eno (3) ... Up next, Michael Andrews' melancholic film score for a minute or two (4) from Me and You and Everyone We Know before Loscil's (5) ether-pulses start to bring your chitty-chatty-bang-bang-mind down a peg or two before we can enter that limboland between wake and sleep and now we realise that headphones maximize the effect here. Back to Deutschland Super-Sleepies for Uli Teichmann's "Piano Tec" (6) track from a KOMPAKT.de compilation and we are officially now in ambient-proper. Next up is some chancer called Chris Dooks (7) for a short drone piece before we head over to Belgium to listen to the final five minutes from a twenty minute chloroform classic from Wim Mertens (8) which I recommend in its own right and full form flow. And would you believe the next track is Texan in origin? You would if you followed the career of Stars of The Lid (9). They are very deep listening man. I've been into them for years and they've been better than sleeping pills, but I can give you this also. What to choose between L.A. and Bradford? Why not have both with Labraford (10) and their best album, E Luxo So, which sounds like it's a sentence in deepest Yorkshire. But it's the rusting leaves of Virginia you can hear. Coming into sleepytime is Stone in Focus (11), a slightly softer and rarer track from Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works II. The last two tracks mean you can turn off the light. Pausal (12) is a highpoint on this compilation on the marvellous Hightpoint-Lowlife label. We end with Brian Mc Bride (13) back in Texas, where there's A Gathering To Lead Me When You're Gone. I am gone. I hope you get gone also.
Love Bovine Radio.
